Ziad Malek, the firm’s founder, has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Mr. Malek spent over 10 years with Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS), the oldest mutual fund company in America. Ziad launched their international business and created the U.S. mutual fund industry’s first offshore mutual fund. He was named president of MFS International and was appointed to MFS’ advisory board.
Ziad began his career as an international corporate banker with European American Bank and later joined HSBC, where he was active in syndicated loan generation and debt:equity swaps. From 1984 to 1987, Ziad served as HSBCs’s representative in the Middle East Region in Bahrain.
From 1982 to 1984, Ziad was a vice president with UBAF Arab American Bank, a consortium of Middle East, U.S. and European banks, including Banker’s Trust, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and BNP Paribas. Among other things, Ziad created the bank’s investment banking group and established its debt:equity swap desk.
Mr. Malek has acted as advisor to government entities in Bahrain, Chile, Dubai and Lebanon and was involved, at the early stages, in the privatization of public sector companies in several countries. Ziad has served on the boards of Hamon Investment (Mellon Financial Services) and Brown Brothers Islamic Fund, among others, and is a member of the United Nations International School (UNIS) Strategic Planning Committee.
In 1996, Ziad founded Malek Partners.
